South Carolina Historical Society
With a new museum opening September 22, 2018, the South Carolina Historical Society is expanding its influence on the city. For more than 160 years, this organization has collected city records, manuscripts, letters, journal entries, photos, illustrations, and more, compiling an extensive collection. These materials are currently archived on the third floor of the Addlestone Library in downtown Charleston and available to anyone conducting research. Once the museum opens this fall at 100 Meeting Street, visitors and locals can learn more about the area through exhibits on every from art and culture to exploration and war.
Historic Charleston Foundation
One of the city’s most important organizations regarding preservation, the Historic Charleston Foundation is committed to conserving the city’s history. As Charleston continues to grow and an increasing number of people move to the area, construction has ramped up as well.
